Wildlife Management Area NYS Department of Environmental Conservation operates this 4,500 acre upland and wetland habitat for the many species that inhabit the site. Visitors may hike, hunt, trap, fish, canoe, kayak, ski, snowmobile, watch birds, ride horseback, and photograph wildlife. Artifacts from early settlements, such as apple trees, lilac bushes, cemeteries, and stone walls, can be seen. Partridge Run is accessed from County Routes 6 (Ravine Road) and 13 (Sickle Hill Road), as well as several town roads, in Berne. WEST MOUNTAIN
The highest point in Albany County, West Mountain is a large area in southwest Berne. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was heavily farmed and deforested, resulting in severe erosion. Most of the farms were bought by the Resettlement Administration in the 1930s, and many cash-strapped families moved away. Much of that land is now Partridge Run. More at Albany Hilltowns. |
