Thacher Nature Center offers ski and hiking trails, wildlife walks and talks, geology and nature exhibits, classes, and family-friendly programs. It's operated by NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and is located in John Boyd Thacher State Park at Thompson's Lake State Campground. More information here. Most of the trails are in fields and woods and not easily accessible to individuals with mobility impairments. The main building is accessible and has a large veranda out back for enjoying the gardens, feeders, lake views, and back yard.

Knox School #5
On the grounds of Thacher Nature Center is a restored one-room schoolhouse on Ketcham Road. In the 19th and 20th centuries, local children attended the school, now the only building in Knox in the National Register of Historic Places. Learn more at Knox Historical Society. |
Teacher Fanny Ellis taught at Knox School #5 in the 1920s.
