John Boyd Thacher State Park
While most of Thacher Park is in the town of New Scotland, it extends into Berne and Knox, as well as Guilderland. Situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, the park offers year-round recreational activities and breath-taking views of the Mohawk-Hudson Valley, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Adirondacks. Thacher Park is maintained by NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. More information and maps here.

Hilltown History
Birthplace of American Palentology
In the 1830s, the Helderberg Escarpment drew international geologists who studied the exposed strata and rich array of marine fossils. A noted scientist called it "a key to the geology of North America." More about the history at NYS Parks.
